Industrial hygiene surveys are conducted to evaluate the health and safety
aspects of a workplace. A survey usually consists of an initial walk-through
to familiarize the certified industrial hygienist (CIH) with the workplace
and current work practices, and to identify potential hazards, followed
by an in-depth evaluation of hazards previously identified. The evaluation
may include the collection of air samples to determine the concentrations
of airborne materials, measurement of noise, heat stress levels, evaluation
of workplace ventilation, and the potential for repetitive motion syndrome.
Corrective action recommendations are provided for all identified hazards.
Typical corrective actions may include employee training, work practices
changes, engineering solutions and the use of personal protective equipment.
Assistance establishing the required record keeping systems is also available.

- All surveys
are conducted under the supervision of an industrial hygienist certified
in Comprehensive Practice by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
- Air samples
collected to evaluate employee exposure to chemicals and dusts are analyzed
by the SEA laboratory, which is accredited by the American Industrial
Hygiene Association.
