Mass spectrometry provides essential chemical composition information for resolving many complex industrial problems.  With various ionization techniques (MALDI, DART, ESI, and APCI) that are available and readily interfaced with TOF, samples in different physical states (solid, liquid, and gas) can be easily analyzed.  The accurate mass measurement and isotopic pattern provided by the TOF instrument also give an advantage for directly identifying chemicals according to their mass data.
